A daily report app for construction: how Omnilog does it

Updated: 2 November 2026 · 4 min read

In short

  • A good daily report app is faster than paper and loses nothing: photos, crew and problems sit in one place, with the date.
  • With Omni you talk for a minute, Omni asks about anything missing and writes the report. You check it and you save it.
  • In Hungary the legal record is the state e-napló. There, Omnilog prepares the entries and keeps your own records.

Why a notebook and a group chat aren’t enough

Most daily reports get written in the evening, tired, from memory. The photos are on a phone, the delivery note is in the van, the client’s request is in a group chat and the headcount is in your head. By the time it all lands in one document, half the detail is gone, and in a dispute about extra work or a delay, that detail is what counts.

In the UK there is no statutory site diary, but under NEC contracts the records you keep back up compensation events (CECA NEC bulletin 50). In the US, daily reports are required by the contract; on federal jobs the specification asks for a contractor quality-control daily report (UFGS 01 45 00). Either way, a record written on the day is worth far more than one pieced together later.

What a daily report app should do

  • Cover what a site diary needs: date, weather, crew by trade with hours, work done, deliveries, problems and delays, visitors, photos.
  • Be quick on site: a few minutes, not half an hour, and no laptop.
  • Keep photos with the log, dated, not lost in a phone’s gallery.
  • Send and share with the client, who can read and acknowledge it.
  • Make silent edits impossible: after signing, corrections stay visible.
  • Give you a PDF in one tap, for anyone who wants paper.

How a daily report gets written with Omni

  1. 1Open the project and start Omni. Talk about the day the way you’d tell a colleague. You can type too.
  2. 2Omni asks about anything missing. One question at a time, in order: work done, crew (trade, headcount, hours), deliveries, today’s problems, what could hold you up in the next few days, visitors. If a trade word slips your mind, Omni helps you find it.
  3. 3Add photos. Omni says what it sees in them and checks it got them right.
  4. 4Check it. Omni sums up the day and puts the report on screen. Change anything you like, then tap Save yourself: Omni never saves on its own.
  5. 5Sign it and email it to the client as a PDF. Before the first email they confirm once that they want your logs. If they have an Omnilog account too, share the log with them, and they can acknowledge it or comment there.

Weather is filled in automatically from a weather service for the site’s town, and marked as not measured on site; change it if you measured it. A signed log can’t be changed: later corrections go on it as remarks, and every change leaves a trace.

What Omnilog doesn’t do

  • It doesn’t save or sign for you. You check the report, tap Save and sign it yourself.
  • Its weather isn’t a site reading. It comes from a weather service until you change it.
  • Its text needs a look. Omni writes the report from what you said, and you stay responsible for what you sign and send.

On smaller jobs, a log signed in Omnilog, shared with the client and acknowledged by them, is your own record of the day: dated, with photos and the client’s acknowledgement on it.

Working in Hungary: the e-napló

In Hungary, work that needs construction documents must be logged in the state e-építési napló (e-epites.hu). Omnilog’s log has a block for the e-napló’s daily report parts: two temperatures and the day’s low, weather downtime, own and subcontractor crew, construction waste with its code, and special entries (eseti bejegyzés).

Omnilog prepares the entries and keeps your own records. The legal entry is still made in the e-napló, under your own Ügyfélkapu+ login: you copy the finished text across.

Price and availability

Omnilog is in a private beta: you join by invitation, and it’s free while the beta lasts. It runs as a web app now; the iPhone and Android apps are coming soon. Later plans are on the Pricing page.
